Edifier R1700BT Review
Today we have so many speakers on the market that it is challenging to choose which ones to buy, whether you buy your first speakers or replacing the old ones.
Before purchasing, you probably need to think about how much space you can afford for the speakers and what sound quality you expect from them.
If you buy too large speakers, they might get in the way, not blend into the room and be too loud for a small space. Too small speakers might not be enough to fill the room with sound. You need to find that “sweet spot” where speaker size and performance create the perfect blend with your room’s dimension.
Edifier started in Canada but then was relocated to Beijing, China, in 1996. Since then, it has created the company’s rapid growth, and now they are present in more than 70 countries around the world.
They are known for manufacturing speakers with excellent quality without being too hard on your wallet. Such an example is Edifier R1700BT bookshelf speakers with Bluetooth connectivity.
- Beautiful mid-range
- Quality builds and finish.
- Bluetooth connectivity
- The warm and smooth sound
- Easy to listen to
- Prominent and boomy bass
Edifier R1700BT have cabinets constructed from MDF and have only one finish option, walnut vinyl and black body, which is enough for a bright and elegant look. The cabinet’s design is with a 10 degree upwards angle, which directs the sound straight towards the listener’s ear.
They look classical and modern at the same time, with or without the grilles. They might even look better without the grilles when the 19mm eagle eye tweeter above the four-inch bass driver is exposed. The bass port is forward-facing at the bottom, beneath the bass driver, which allows you to place the speakers without worrying about the wall’s proximity.
The size of Edifier R1700BT is 154mm x 254mm x 214 mm, so they are moderately thin and can fit any desk or shelves. The weight is about 6 kg each.
On its right side, there are treble, bass, and volume controls and a LED in a countersunk panel on the right speaker. The LED is green for line connection and blue when connected via Bluetooth. It is a nice touch that the knobs are from aluminum and not plastic, weighted just enough for a smooth adjusting. The volume knob selects the connectivity (the input source) by pushing and holding it down.
The right speaker’s back has two RCA inputs (if you want to plug in non-Bluetooth players or use them as TV speakers), the out for the left speaker, and a power switch. The left speaker’s back is much more straightforward with just a single interconnect jack. For all the cables that you need, Edifier made sure they come with the box.
There is also a minimal and thin remote control, which is very handy for changing the speakers’ volume since you can’t do that directly from the phone. So you need to use the remote or manually turn the volume control.
The Bluetooth connection is steady and without dropouts. The signal is strong even through walls and 10 m distance.
Sound quality of Edifier R1700BT
The best moment about Edifier R1700BT is the fantastic sound. The mid-range beautifully presented with such clarity, especially vocals, are prominent, solid, and airy. The sound is clear, courtesy of Digital Signal Processing (DSP) and Dynamic Range Control (DRC) without overlapping. These two technologies, integrated into the design, eliminate sound distortion.
The only negative comment is bout the lower frequencies. The bass is crisp, powerful, and even comes strongly, especially the mid-bass. Sometimes it can feel muffled, but the good thing is it doesn’t bleed into the mid-range, which is a pleasant surprise. But the bass lines stick out too much that they overshadow the speaker’s performance. Probably this is the only blip from Edifiers that puts a mark on an otherwise tremendous and fantastic understanding of the speakers.
The overall sound of the Edifier R1700BT is bright, clear, and energetic, capable of filling a small to medium-sized room.
The Edifier R1700BT is a beautiful pair of speakers that will look amazing on every desk or shelf. Having Bluetooth options and a reasonable price, they are a top-notch and a hard-to-beat competitor. You have to consider them if you need some desktop speakers to watch movies, play video games, or just casual listening to music in your room.
If you are still not sure because of the errant baseline that kept them from deserving full positive marks, look at the speakers once again, and their stunning look might convince you.
